The Briar Queen is a banshee of terrible power, a spirit so wilful and dangerous that Nagash himself is said to have bound her in barbed thorns and chains to master her fury. In life she may have been a queen; in death she is a shrieking horror, her lower body trailing away into a snarl of grasping bramble and her voice a weapon that stops living hearts. She leads a procession of the Nighthaunt known as the Thorns of the Briar Queen, a knot of chainrasp spirits chained to her will and dragged wailing wherever she roams. When she looses her killing scream the sound tears through armour and flesh alike, and those who survive are left frozen with a dread that roots them in place for her thorns to seize. Though bound, the Briar Queen strains ceaselessly against her fetters, her rage undimmed by the ages of her captivity. She is a reminder that even in undeath the Great Necromancer does not so much command his servants as imprison them, harnessing their hatred and pointing it at his foes.
