The Spirit Torment is a jailer of the dead, a powerful Nighthaunt spirit hung with the chains, shackles and soul-cages of its grim vocation. Once, perhaps, it was a torturer or gaoler in life; now it plies that same cruel trade among the Nighthaunt, seizing the frayed and dissipating essences of destroyed spirits and binding them forcibly back into the procession to continue the fight. The soulfire brazier it carries flares with each spirit it captures, and the malignant energies it wields lash out to torment the living and the enemy dead alike. A Spirit Torment radiates an aura of anguish that steadies its ghostly kin, ensuring that even a Nighthaunt host cut to ribbons will not easily disperse. It moves through the battle with the slow, deliberate menace of an executioner, dragging its chains and reaching for any soul, friend or foe, that might be pressed into eternal service. So long as the Spirit Torment endures, the damned cannot even find release in destruction, for it drags them back to their suffering again and again.
