The Drowner

Awlrach the Drowner

The spectral ferryman who drags stolen souls across the underworlds' black rivers and hauls the Nighthaunt into battle in his wake.

Awlrach the Drowner is a grim and ancient spirit, the ferryman who plies the black rivers that wind between the underworlds, hauling the harvested souls of the dead to their judgement before Nagash. Bound to a spectral barge dragged by drowned and skeletal steeds, Awlrach is a fixture of the Nighthaunt processions, and he wields the tides of the death-rivers as a weapon of war. With a heave of his mighty anchor and chain he drags enemies from their feet, and where he wills it dark waters rise to spirit his ghostly allies across the battlefield, letting whole processions surge up from the deeps of the underworld to fall upon the foe. His hooded form is wreathed in the chill of drowned places, and his touch fills the lungs of the living with phantom water. Awlrach performs his endless task without malice and without mercy, a labourer of death who has ferried souls since time immemorial and will do so until the last spirit is claimed. To meet him is to feel the cold current of the grave close over your head at last.
