For a Legion that waged war through knowledge and misdirection, the Legion Reconnaissance Squad was less a scouting element than the forward edge of an intelligence apparatus that might already have been operating on a world for months. Ranging ahead of the Legion's strength, these warriors gathered the fine-grained knowledge upon which the XX built its labyrinthine schemes, troop dispositions, supply routes, the names and weaknesses of enemy commanders, the fault-lines within an opposing alliance that a well-placed rumour might widen into open fracture. They were masters of concealment and of passing unnoticed, as comfortable shadowing a target through a hive city as stalking him across open wilderness. What they learned rarely stayed mere reconnaissance for long; it fed the Legion's saboteurs, its headhunters, and its turned agents, becoming the raw material from which whole campaigns of deception were built. In the Alpha Legion's way of war, to be seen by a recon squad was often to have already lost.
