Legion Rapier Weapons Battery

The Horus Heresy

Crewed weapon carriers the XIV Legion loads with rad and toxin munitions to poison ground the enemy dares not cross.

The Legion Rapier Weapons Battery was a natural fit for the Death Guard, a Legion that embraced the grim sciences of chemical and radiological war more readily than any of its brothers. Each Rapier was a crewed tracked carriage mounting a heavy weapon, and the XIV favoured quad launchers loaded with rad-shells and toxin munitions that saturated an enemy's ground with lingering death, sickening and killing long after the barrage had ceased. The sons of Barbarus had grown to manhood amid the poison mists of their homeworld, and they turned that grim inheritance against their foes without hesitation, seeding a battlefield with contamination that only Legiones Astartes physiology could endure. Sited in patient batteries, the Rapiers held their fire until the enemy committed, then loosed a slow, remorseless rain of corruption that made every metre of contested ground a lethal ordeal. It was attrition warfare at its most pitiless, and the Death Guard practised it with cold mastery.
