Storm-Rider

Shiban Khan

The Horus Heresy

A brotherhood khan of the Fifth, Shiban rode through the Heresy's ambushes and was remade by them, a rider who learned patience without ever losing the storm.

Shiban Khan commanded a brotherhood of the Fifth Legion, one of the many khans who led the White Scars' hunting packs across the stars. He was, in the Legion's own reckoning, an exemplar of the old Chogorian virtues, swift, aggressive, and contemptuous of the slow grinding wars that other Legions seemed to prize, and he carried those beliefs into the opening treacheries of the Heresy.

The war did not leave him as it found him. Grievously broken in the ambushes and betrayals that scattered the loyalist cause, Shiban was rebuilt by the Legion's artificers, returned to the saddle in a body remade and a spirit tempered by hard lessons in patience and doubt. Where once he had known only the joy of the charge, he came to understand the value of the long game, the feint, the trap sprung after days of waiting.

Through the White Scars' fighting retreat toward Terra, Shiban Khan became something the young rider could never have been, a warrior who married the Legion's native speed to a colder, more calculating strategy, and in doing so embodied the harder, wiser Fifth that the betrayals of the age had forged.
