The Lion's Blade

Corswain

The Horus Heresy

A knightly paladin whose chivalric honour and skill at arms made him the Lion's most trusted champion through the Thramas Crusade.

Among the First Legion's knightly paladins, few earned the Lion's regard as fully as Corswain, a warrior of the Ninth Order whose skill at arms was matched by a rare gift for command. Where many of his brothers wore the Legion's secrecy like armour, Corswain carried himself with an openness and chivalric honour that made him beloved by legionaries who found the Lion himself remote and unknowable, and in time he rose to serve as one of the primarch's most trusted champions.

Through the long and bitter Thramas Crusade, waged against the Night Lords in the void between the war's greater battles, Corswain proved himself again and again, holding commands the Lion could not personally oversee and standing firm where lesser officers would have broken. When the campaign reached its most desperate hours, it was Corswain the Lion relied upon to embody the Legion's honour on battlefields the primarch himself could not reach. He became, in the truest sense, the blade the Lion could send where his own hand could not go, a paladin whose loyalty never wavered even as suspicion gathered around the First Legion like a rising tide.
