Hive Fleet Kraken came from a different angle of attack than its forebears, and it fought with a cunning that chilled Imperial commanders to the bone. Where Behemoth had struck as a single overwhelming mass, the Tyranids of Kraken splintered into countless independent tendrils, each capable of coordinated ambush and lightning strike, adapting to every strategy raised against them.
The swarm fell heaviest upon Ultramar once more, and the second great Tyranid war cost the Space Marines dearly. The Ultramarines and their successors bled to hold the line, and even the Aeldari of Iyanden were nearly annihilated defending their craftworld against Kraken's ravenous tendrils. The swarm's ability to learn and evolve made every engagement a fresh horror.
Though Imperial and xenos forces broke the main body of Kraken, they could not destroy it. The fleet fractured into a myriad of splinter-swarms that scattered across the galaxy like seeds on a poisoned wind. Some were later devoured into the Ork empire of Octarius, feeding a war that would consume worlds without end. Others still slink through the void, patient and evolving, ensuring that the shadow of Kraken never truly lifts from the stars.
