The Chaos Warshrine is a rolling monument to the Dark Gods, a great iron-bound altar of stone and bone dragged across the battlefield by chained captives, chaos beasts, or its own unnatural animation. Atop it presides a shrine-keeper who beseeches the Powers on the horde's behalf, and the gods, capricious as ever, answer in their own coin: a warrior may be blessed with impervious skin or berserk strength, or he may be twisted into a gibbering spawn where he stands, depending on nothing anyone can predict. The northmen march in its shadow gladly and fearfully both, for its presence draws the direct attention of the deities they serve, and such attention is never safe. Around it the warp grows thin, mutations quicken, and the boundary between the mortal world and the realm of the gods wears through. To advance behind the Warshrine is to fight beneath the literal gaze of Chaos, and to trust that the gaze finds you worthy rather than merely interesting.
