Kholek Suneater is among the oldest living things in the world, a Dragon Ogre Shaggoth of such age and size that mountains have risen and worn away while he slept. His kind struck a bargain with the Powers of the storm in the dawn of time, trading eternity for the price of endless slumber between wars, and Kholek has kept that bargain longer than any of them. Vast beyond the scale of ordinary monsters, his scaled hide crackling with the lightning he devours from the sky, he wakes only when the tread of a great Chaos host or the fury of a mighty storm calls to the tempest in his blood.
When he does wake, he is less a warrior than a natural disaster given purpose. His colossal war-maul, Starcrusher, falls like a landslide; his roar drowns thunder; and whole regiments are simply flattened beneath his tread. He remembers the world when it was young, cares nothing for the ambitions of the mortals who march beside him, and answers only the storm and the long, patient hunger of the gods who made him. To rouse Kholek is to admit that a war has grown large enough to be worth the waking of an age.
