The Field Trebuchet is a rare concession to unchivalrous warfare in an army that prizes the glory of the mounted charge above all else — a towering counterweight siege engine, more often seen battering castle walls, dragged onto the open battlefield and crewed by sweating, swearing peasant labourers. It hurls enormous stones in a high arc to come crashing down upon the enemy ranks, and few things on the field can withstand the impact: armour buckles, monsters are broken, and whole files of men are flattened where the boulder lands. Bretonnian knights regard the engine with distaste, for there is no honour in slaying a foe one never rides to meet, and they tolerate it only because their lords understand that some enemies — massed greenskin hordes, rampaging monsters, entrenched foes — cannot be answered by lance and courage alone. The peasants who work it labour under the knights' contempt and the enemy's fire both, and they loose their stones with the grim satisfaction of men briefly permitted to matter.
