Tancred, Duke of Quenelles, is a stern and unrelenting Bretonnian lord whose family has been bound for generations to a single, all-consuming feud — the destruction of the Red Duke, the vampire who once ruled Aquitaine and rises again and again to plague the living. Tancred's ancestors fell fighting that undead horror, and he has inherited both their grudge and their doom, dedicating his life to hunting the walking dead wherever they stir in the southern dukedoms. Clad in heavy armour and bearing blessed steel, he leads the knights of Quenelles against tomb and barrow and battlefield alike, and the sight of his banner sends the lesser undead cringing. He is a man with little patience for the courtly graces of his peers, hardened by too many midnight vigils over graves that would not stay quiet, and he fights with the cold fury of one who knows his enemy will keep coming back. Whether Tancred will at last lay the Red Duke to rest, or merely add his own bones to the long tally of his line's failures, not even the Lady has revealed.
