Where the Morrsarr break armies, the Ishlaen Guard keep them broken. Their fangmora mounts are bred and bridled for steadiness rather than shock, and their galv-shields hold a standing charge that turns aside blade, bolt, and spell-flame alike in stuttering flashes of sea-light.
Ishlaen riders screen the Namarti advance, hold the shore while the soul-tithe is carried down to the water, and are always the last shadows to slip beneath the waves. In the Akhelian academies theirs is called the colder courage — anyone can ride at glory, but it takes a certain iron to ride between the enemy and a retreating tide, sabre out, and simply refuse.
