The Sightless Sovereign

The Blind King

An enigmatic deep-aelf monarch who rules from a drowned throne, his sightless eyes said to perceive the currents of fate more clearly than any seer.

The Blind King is one of the most enigmatic sovereigns of the deep aelves, a monarch who rules a shadowed enclave from a throne wreathed in ethersea mist, his ruined eyes long sightless yet said to perceive far more than any who still possess their vision. Legend holds that in losing his sight he gained sight of the soul-tides, the currents of fate and spirit that run beneath the surface of all things, and that he now governs by omen and undertow rather than by what mortal eyes can see.

Cold, patient, and unknowable, the Blind King embodies the isolation and secrecy that define the Idoneth. Among the Idoneth Deepkin his enclave is spoken of in guarded tones even by other deep-aelves, for his motives run deeper than the black trenches his people call home. When he rouses his host to war it is never for the reasons his allies expect, and the raids he launches serve purposes only he perceives. Some whisper he sees the doom of his race approaching on the tide and manoeuvres against it; others believe he simply plays a longer game than any living aelf can follow. Either way, the Blind King watches, and waits, and is never truly surprised.
