The chosen swell into hulking, pallid giants — Crypt Horrors — convinced beyond all persuasion that they stand vigil in burnished armor, sworn to codes of honor they recite with perfect solemnity.
They fight as they believe: deliberately, dutifully, accepting challenges and shielding the commons of the court. Their blows land like siege engines, and wounds that should end them simply close, for the king's gift knits their bodies as tightly as it binds their minds. Veterans who face them speak of the peculiar horror of being run down by something that never stops proclaiming its chivalry.
