Godbeasts are the colossal, near-divine monsters of the Mortal Realms, creatures so vast and so saturated with primordial magic that they shape the world around them like living gods. Each is unique, a walking cataclysm the size of a mountain range, and the greatest among them are worshipped, feared, and warred over as though they were deities in their own right, which, in a sense, they are.
The godbeasts are woven into the very geography of the realms. Some are so immense that whole civilisations dwell upon their backs or within their bones, mistaking a slumbering titan for solid land; others carve mountain ranges with their passing or drink entire seas. A few possess cosmic significance, tied to the fate of whole realms, and their deaths can reshape the world. When the god Grimnir slew the fire-serpent Vulcatrix, for instance, both were destroyed, and the shattered essence became the sacred ur-gold hunted by the Fyreslayers.
Because of their staggering power, godbeasts are among the most coveted prizes in the setting. Chaos seeks to corrupt and enslave them, Sigmar's forces to free or ally with them, and Destruction to simply challenge and slay them for glory. To bind a godbeast to one's cause is to wield a weapon that can level armies and topple cities, and the struggle to control these titanic beings has decided the fate of realms. They are the untamed majesty and terror of the age made flesh.
