Xenos & Species

The Demiurg

The Demiurg are a stocky, long-lived xenos species of spacefaring miners and traders, a secretive people who roam the galaxy aboard immense vessels rather than dwelling upon worlds. Squat and powerful of build, with a culture devoted to industry and craft, they are encountered most often at the fringes of settled space, bartering minerals and technology with human Rogue Traders and other powers.

Demiurg society is said to be organised around vast mining ships called Stronghold-class vessels, mobile fortress-factories that carry their brotherhoods from one resource-rich region to the next. They harvest asteroids, comets, and dead worlds for raw materials, working the metals they gather with a craftsmanship that other races covet. Rarely aggressive by inclination, they nonetheless arm their ships formidably, for the void is a dangerous place for any who wander it.

The Demiurg keep to themselves, but they are known to trade with the T'au Empire, whose philosophy of cooperation suits their mercantile temperament. Their broader place in galactic history is a matter of speculation, and some wonder whether they share a distant kinship with the ancestor-worshipping Leagues of Votann, that other short-statured people of miners and traders who dwell in the galaxy's cold reaches. Whatever their origins, the Demiurg remain aloof wanderers, glimpsed at the edges of a galaxy at war and rarely lingering long.
