No Legion made the Legion Vindicator so wholly its own as the Iron Warriors, for whom the reduction of walls was less a tactic than a first principle. Perturabo's siege-masters massed these blunt, brutal tanks in batteries, their demolisher cannons pounding fortifications to slag with the patient inevitability of an equation being solved. Where others saw an ugly, short-ranged engine, the IV Legion saw a tool honed exactly to its purpose, and they crewed their Vindicators with the cold competence that was their bitter pride. Hazard-striped and scarred, advancing through their own dust behind the great blast-shield, they cracked bastion and bunker so the grinding infantry assault might follow into the breach. To serve the Lord of Iron was to understand that every stronghold, however proud, was merely a sum of stresses waiting to be brought down — and the Vindicator was the hammer that proved it.
