The Legion Land Raider Proteus gave the Iron Warriors an armoured fist that could be driven through the worst a defender could muster and emerge intact on the far side. Sheathed in frontal armour that shrugged aside all but the heaviest guns, the Proteus carried the IV Legion's veterans across cratered no-man's-land and through the throat of a breach, its lascannons hammering strongpoints as it came. Perturabo's warriors valued the machine not for beauty but for grim endurance — a quality they esteemed in their tanks as in themselves. Many bore explorator arrays the Legion turned to the reading of minefields and hidden defences, for the Iron Warriors approached even the transport of troops as a problem of engineering to be solved without loss. Battered, hazard-striped, and utterly dependable, the Proteus was the steel wedge that split a fortress open from within once its walls had failed.
