The Inquisition

The Inquisition is the Imperium's ultimate authority, a shadowed order that answers to none save the Golden Throne. Its Inquisitors hunt heresy, daemon, and alien alike, wielding the power to command fleets, judge worlds, and condemn the corrupt to fire. Divided among great Ordos, each dedicated to a different existential threat, its members walk a razor's edge between salvation and damnation in defence of Mankind.

The Inquisition exists to guard the Imperium against the enemies within and without, threats so grave that the common populace must never learn of their nature. An Inquisitor bears the Inquisitorial Rosette, a symbol of authority so absolute that few dare defy it. With a word they may requisition an army, execute a lord, or purge an entire population.

The order is fractured into great Ordos, each charged with a particular menace. The Ordo Malleus stands vigil against the daemon, the Ordo Hereticus against the traitor and the witch, and the Ordo Xenos against the alien. Beneath and beside them lie countless secret cabals pursuing their own hidden mandates.

Yet the Inquisition is no monolith. Its members are riven by philosophy, from the uncompromising Puritans who would sooner die than wield the enemy's weapons, to the Radicals who believe damnation itself may be turned against the darkness. This eternal disagreement makes the Inquisition as dangerous to itself as to its foes, yet somehow it endures, ever watching, ever ready to burn away corruption wherever it takes root.
