The Proudest of the Proud
Even among the vainglorious officers of the Emperor's Children, Eidolon stood out for the towering scale of his arrogance. One of the eleven Lord Commanders who led the Third Legion during the Great Crusade, he was a gifted and ferocious warrior, surgically enhanced so that he could unleash a devastating sonic scream from his own throat, a grim foreshadowing of the weaponised sound that would one day define his Legion. His ambition and self-regard knew few limits, and in the end they very nearly destroyed him.
Beheaded and Reborn
During the madness of the Horus Heresy, Eidolon dared to question the will of his primarch once too often, and Fulgrim struck the head from his shoulders with a cursed anathame blade. In a rare flicker of remorse, Fulgrim commanded the Chief Apothecary Fabius Bile to undo the deed, and Bile painstakingly reconnected the nerve clusters at the base of the Lord Commander's neck. Eidolon rose again, but the resurrection came at a price: forever after he existed in a ceaseless storm of agony transmuted by Slaanesh into ecstasy, every waking moment a symphony of pain and pleasure. His brethren named him the Risen.
Lord Commander Primus
When Fulgrim ascended to daemonhood upon Iydris and turned his gaze to the pleasures of the Warp, the Emperor's Children shattered into warring warbands, and the ruinous Legion Wars nearly finished them altogether. From that wreckage Eidolon salvaged his ambition. He seized command of fully a third of the surviving warbands, re-established the Legion's seat at Canticle City upon Harmony, and proclaimed himself Lord Commander Primus, first among the sons of Fulgrim.
The Dream of Perfection
Eidolon claims to have been visited in a dream by Fulgrim, who charged him to gather those of the Third Legion who still sought perfection, and upon this vision he founded the Phoenix Conclave. He has come to believe that perfection can be reforged only from ruin, and so he spreads entropy and excess wherever he treads, certain that something flawless will one day rise from the ashes of all he unmakes. To further this end he has secretly bound himself to Abaddon the Despoiler, riding out from the Eye of Terror amid the Black Crusades, an immortal and agonised lord forever chasing a perfection that recedes with every atrocity he commits.
