M41, the Time of Ending

The Siege of the Fenris System

The Sons of Magnus returned to settle a ten-thousand-year grudge, drowning the world of the Wolves in sorcery, fire and betrayal.

The oldest hatreds are the deepest, and few run deeper than that between the wolves of Fenris and the sorcerers of Prospero. The Siege of the Fenris System was the reopening of that ancient wound, a war of vengeance ten thousand years in the making, when the Chaos Space Marines of the Thousand Sons descended upon the Space Wolves' home to repay the burning of their world with interest. Sorcery boiled the void and daemons poured through tears in reality.

The war was one of illusion and horror as much as bolter and blade. The Space Marines of the Wolves fought an enemy that struck at the mind as readily as the body, their fortresses assailed by phantoms, their loyalties poisoned by sorcerous deceit. Worlds of the Fenris system burned, and even mighty Fenris itself was wracked by daemonic incursion, the Fang besieged and the sons of Russ pressed as they had rarely been pressed since the Heresy itself.

Survival came, but at a cost that gutted the Chapter and left the grudge more raw than ever. The Chaos Daemons were banished, the sorcerers driven back into the warp from which they came, but Fenris was left scarred and its people diminished. The Wolves had endured the vengeance of Prospero, yet both sides knew the reckoning was not finished, only paused, another verse in a feud that would end only when one brotherhood or the other was wholly unmade.
