The Sabretusk Pack is a knot of lean mountain hunting-cats, each the size of a warhorse and armed with the curved, foot-long fangs that give the breed its name. Ogres capture and half-tame them as a lord might keep hounds, loosing them ahead of the main horde to run down scouts, harry flanks, and drag screaming skirmishers off into the long grass.
A sabretusk is faster than anything its size has any right to be, and it hunts with the patient cruelty of a creature that has never gone hungry for long. The packs range wide of the ogre line, flushing hidden foes, running down fleeing men, and pulling lone riders from the saddle in a flurry of claws and fangs. They answer to their ogre keepers only loosely and only while fed, but a well-blooded pack is worth a company of outriders — the eyes, ears, and reaching claws of a horde that would otherwise see little past its own next meal.
