Gnoblars

The scrawny green-skinned vermin that swarm in the shadow of the ogres, too numerous and too worthless to be worth eating.

The Gnoblars are the wretched little cousins of the ogre race, scrawny green-skinned vermin that swarm in the shadow of their vast masters and survive by being too numerous and too worthless to bother eating. Each ogre tribe drags a squabbling multitude of them along, and the Gnoblars repay their keep by carrying loot, scavenging scrap, and flinging themselves into battle in shrieking, disorganised mobs. They fight with rusted blades, sharpened sticks, and hoarded heaps of jagged rubbish hurled at the foe, doing little real harm but swamping the enemy in sheer squealing numbers. An ogre values his Gnoblars roughly as a man values his fingernails — useful enough, easily replaced, and no great loss when a few are trampled underfoot. Yet a horde of them can pin a foe in place long enough for the real killers to arrive, and that alone earns them their meagre scraps.
