Tzarina Katarin rules Kislev from the ice-bound throne of the Bokha Palaces, and she rules it as both queen and archmage, for the crown of the northern realm has always been worn by its greatest sorcerer. She is the mightiest ice-witch of her age, mistress of a frost-magic so potent that she is said to have frozen the great river Lynsk solid to deny a Chaos horde its crossing, and her enemies have learned that to war upon Kislev in winter is to war upon the Tzarina herself. Grave, cold, and terribly composed, Katarin carries the weight of a realm that is always one hard season from ruin, and she has hardened to match it.
She came to the throne young, upon the death of her father the Tzar, and has spent her reign holding a bleeding country together by will, magic, and blood. She wields the frost-blade Fearfrost and rides to battle at the head of her Ice Guard, calling down blizzards upon the servants of the Dark Gods. Katarin knows that Kislev cannot be saved, only defended, one winter at a time, and she has given her whole cold heart to that endless task. Her people call her the Ice Queen, and love her for it, and fear her a little too.
