Living Greatbow

Kurnoth Greatbow

A towering living greatbow of the Sylvaneth, its arrows sprouting roots that burst into strangling thickets wherever they pierce the foe.

Grown rather than forged, the Kurnoth Greatbow is a weapon of the Sylvaneth, the tree-spirits who wage war on behalf of the goddess Alarielle. Borne by the towering Kurnoth Hunters, these bows are living things, limbs of hardened heartwood strung with sinews of vine, and they loose arrows that are as much seed as shaft.

An arrow from a Kurnoth Greatbow strikes with the force of a spear cast from a siege engine, punching clean through armour and body alike. Yet the true horror comes after the impact, for the arrow's barbed head takes root in whatever it strikes. Within moments, grasping tendrils erupt from the wound and from the earth around it, snaring the wounded and the whole alike in a sudden thicket of thorns. Entire enemy formations have been dragged down and throttled by the growth that follows a single Sylvaneth volley.

The Hunters who wield these bows are patient beyond mortal understanding, for they measure time in the growth of forests. They loose their arrows from the eaves of the wyldwoods, and where their shafts fall, new groves rise to reclaim the land for the goddess. To the servants of Chaos who despoil the Mortal Realms, the whistle of a Kurnoth arrow is a promise that the wilds are watching, and that the forest always takes back what is stolen from it.
