The Vengeful Spirit was the mightiest warship of the Great Crusade, a Gloriana-class battleship of staggering size that bore the Warmaster Horus and his Sons of Horus to the furthest edges of the reconquered galaxy. From its command deck the Emperor's favoured son directed campaigns that brought a thousand worlds into compliance, and its name was spoken with pride across the expanding Imperium. It was the fist of humanity's greatest general.
When Horus fell to the whispers of the Dark Gods, the Vengeful Spirit became the black heart of the rebellion. Within its depths, in the lodge-chapels and the temple hidden deep in its hull, the seeds of treachery took root, and half the Legions were turned against the Emperor. The ship that had carried the crusade's banner now carried its betrayal.
It was aboard the Vengeful Spirit, in orbit above the burning Throneworld, that the final duel was fought. There the Emperor teleported to confront His fallen son, and there Horus was struck down amid the ruin of his own flagship. The decks ran with the blood of demigods.
Though the Warmaster died, his ship endured, fleeing into the Eye of Terror with the shattered traitor Legions. The Vengeful Spirit remains a relic of the Heresy, a floating monument to the wound that never healed.
