The Vengeful Spirit was the flagship of Horus Lupercal, a Gloriana-class battleship among the mightiest vessels ever raised by the Mechanicum, and the seat from which the Warmaster commanded his rebellion. A voidcraft the size of a city, bristling with weapons and crowned with the honours of a hundred campaigns, it was both fortress and throne to the master of the traitor host.
From its bridge Horus directed the war against his father, and within its cavernous halls the corruption of the Sons of Horus took root and spread. It bore the Warmaster to Davin, where his fall was sealed, and at the last it carried him to Terra for the final reckoning. More than a mere ship, the Vengeful Spirit became a character in the tragedy — a haunted, warp-touched place where loyalty rotted and damnation was welcomed aboard.
It was upon the Vengeful Spirit that the Horus Heresy reached its end. There the Emperor teleported into the heart of His son's power to face him alone, and there, amid the ruin of the traitor flagship, the duel was fought that would slay Horus and maim the Emperor beyond recovery. Few places in human history witnessed so much sorrow.
