Officer Academy

The Schola Progenium

The austere academies that raise the orphaned children of fallen Imperial servants into commissars, storm troopers, and zealous officers of the Throne.

The Schola Progenium is the network of severe scholastic institutions that takes the orphaned children of the Imperium's most valued servants and forges them into its most dedicated ones. When a commissar, an officer, or a devoted adept dies in service, their surviving children, the progena, become wards of the Schola, raised in a regime of iron discipline, ceaseless devotion, and relentless instruction until every trace of weakness has been drilled away.

Run under the auspices of the Imperial church, the Schola cultivates above all an unbreakable faith in the God-Emperor and an equally unbreakable loyalty to the institutions of the Throne. Its progena rise before dawn to prayer and end each day exhausted by study and martial drill, learning that duty is everything and that the individual is nothing beside the survival of Mankind. Those who cannot endure are winnowed out; those who thrive emerge as some of the most steadfast servants the Imperium possesses.

The graduates of the Schola fill roles of singular trust across human space. Many become the commissars whose cold discipline stiffens the wavering ranks of the Astra Militarum, executing cowards and rallying the broken with equal resolve. Others enter the elite Militarum Tempestus as storm troopers, or ascend to command, administration, and the priesthood itself. A number of the orphaned girls are given instead to the convents of the Adepta Sororitas, there to become warriors of the faith.

Austerity, faith, and unflinching duty are the Schola's holy trinity, and its cold halls have produced heroes and tyrants alike across the ages. The institution and its harsh methods are explored further in the glossary account of the Schola Progenium, the crucible in which grief is forged into fanatical loyalty.
