Telepathica

The Adeptus Astra Telepathica

The order that harnesses the Imperium's sanctioned psykers, forging astropaths whose telepathy carries messages across the black abyss of space.

The Adeptus Astra Telepathica is the Imperial institution charged with the gathering, sanctioning, and disciplining of humanity's psykers, the rare and dangerous individuals whose minds touch the warp. In an age when a single untrained psyker can become a doorway for daemons, the Telepathica performs a duty as vital as it is grim: to seek out these gifted and cursed souls before they can bring ruin, and to bend those who survive to the service of the Throne.

At the core of its work stand the Black Ships, sombre vessels that ceaselessly patrol human space harvesting psykers by the thousand. Most are gathered as tithe, and of those the greater number are consumed to sustain the beacon at Terra, their souls poured out that others might live. A fortunate remnant are trained and put to purpose, chief among them the astropaths, whose telepathy is the only means by which the far-flung Imperium can communicate across the immensities of the void.

To forge an astropath, the Telepathica subjects each survivor to the Soul Binding, a searing ritual in which the Emperor's own psychic essence is fused to their mind. The rite shields them against the predations of the warp, yet exacts a cruel price, most emerging blinded and physically ravaged, bound forever thereafter to the will of the Master of Mankind. From these broken visionaries the Imperium weaves its network of whispered messages across the stars.

The order labours in close concert with the psychic beacon it helps to feed, the great signal chronicled in the account of the Astronomican. The full scope of its duties is set out in the glossary of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica, a merciless institution that turns Mankind's most feared curse into one of its indispensable strengths.
