Xenos Movement

The Ork Waaagh!

The gathering green tide, part crusade and part psychic storm, in which countless Ork mobs fuse behind one Warboss and roll unstoppably toward war.

The Ork Waaagh! is the closest thing the greenskins have to a nation, a religion, and an army, all three roaring at once. It is not an institution with rolls and ranks but a phenomenon, a self-feeding avalanche of violence that begins when a single Warboss grows large and brutal enough to draw others into his orbit. As mobs flock to the strongest, the Orks generate a rising psychic field that quickens their aggression, sharpens their crude technology, and drives the whole green mass toward the nearest promise of a good fight.

Structure within a Waaagh! is decided by the oldest law there is: the biggest and toughest gives the orders. Beneath the Warboss cluster lesser Nobz, each commanding his own mob, and beneath them the endless boyz who live only to charge. This crude chain holds together for exactly as long as the Warboss keeps winning; the first serious defeat may see him challenged, deposed, or simply flattened by a rival who reckons he could do better.

The force that makes a Waaagh! more than a mob is the peculiar gestalt of Ork psychology, the shared certainty described in the concept of the Waaagh! energy field. Belief and violence reinforce one another until the greenskins genuinely bend reality to their expectations, their guns firing because everyone knows they will and their war-machines running on faith as much as fuel. The larger the horde, the stronger the field, and the stronger the field, the larger the horde grows.

A full Waaagh! can consume whole sub-sectors, and the greatest have threatened the Imperium itself. Yet the same crude energy that makes it terrible also makes it fragile; a Waaagh! knows only how to grow or to break, never how to stop. When at last it fractures, the survivors scatter across the stars, each carrying the seed of the next great tide.
