Imperial Adepta

The Choirs of Nuntio

The astropathic choirs that hurl thought across the void, sanctioned psykers who cry the Imperium's messages through the screaming warp.

The Choirs of Nuntio are astropathic conclaves of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica, gathered to bind their psychic voices together and cast messages across the unimaginable gulfs between worlds. Where no ship could carry word swiftly enough, the astropaths of the choir project thought itself through the immaterium, singing the Imperium's commands, warnings, and pleas for aid from one end of a segmentum to the other.

Each astropath has survived the Soul Binding, a rite that sears away their sight and marks their soul with the God-Emperor's own ward against the predators of the warp. Even so, the sending of a message is perilous labour. The astropaths chant in choirs so that the strength of many might carry a signal further and shield it against the daemons that hunger to twist or devour every thought cast into the dark.

The messages themselves arrive rarely as plain words, but as storms of symbol, emotion, and dream that must be laboriously interpreted, and much is lost or garbled in the sending. Working hand in hand with the imperial agents who marshal the Imperium's psykers, the Choirs of Nuntio form the nervous system of a galaxy-spanning realm. Without their ceaseless song, the Imperium would fall silent, its million worlds scattered and deaf to one another's cries.
