The Adeptus Astra Telepathica is the Imperial institution responsible for gathering, training, and controlling the human psykers upon whom the realm depends. In a civilisation terrified of witchcraft yet utterly reliant on psychic power, it walks a razor's edge, harnessing a gift that could as easily damn a world as save it.
Its most solemn duty is the sanctioning of psykers. Candidates gathered from across the galaxy are brought to Terra, where the strongest and most stable are subjected to the Emperor's Soul Binding, a searing ritual that grants a measure of protection against the horrors of the Warp at the cost of the recipient's sight. Those who survive are forged into the astropaths and other sanctioned psykers the Imperium cannot do without.
The remainder meet a darker fate. The unsuitable and the weak are gathered in their thousands to feed the Golden Throne, their souls consumed to sustain the Emperor and to power the great beacon that guides ships through the void. Grim, secretive, and inseparable from the machinery of Imperial survival, the Adeptus Astra Telepathica embodies the terrible bargains humanity makes to endure among the stars.
