A Sanctioned Psyker is a human witch whose latent warp-born powers have been tested, disciplined, and licensed for the service of the Imperium. Drawn from the ceaseless harvest of psykers gathered by the Black Ships, only a fraction survive the ordeals of the Scholastia Psykana to emerge as sanctioned servants, their minds fortified against the predations of the warp.
Through gruelling soul-binding rituals and years of psychic conditioning, a sanctioned psyker learns to channel the raw energies of the empyrean without succumbing to possession or madness. They serve across the Imperium as battlefield witches within the Astra Militarum, as astropaths carrying messages across the void, and as instruments of the Inquisition, ever watched for the first sign of corruption.
Despite their usefulness, sanctioned psykers are regarded with fear and loathing by the common folk, for the line between a licensed witch and a damned heretic is perilously thin. Their every waking moment is a battle against the daemons that hunger to claim their gifted souls.
