M41, the 41st Millennium

The Kaurava Conflict

An entire system became a battleground for seven rival powers, each bent on the annihilation of all others in a war without quarter.

Few conflicts embody the murderous plurality of the 41st Millennium so completely as the Kaurava Conflict, a war in which seven separate powers descended upon a single star system, each determined to grind the other six into dust. The worlds of Kaurava became a chessboard of total war, their surfaces and orbits fought over with a ferocity that admitted no truce and no mercy.

The banners were many and mutually loathing. The Space Marines and the Astra Militarum fought for the Imperium's dominion, while the Tau Empire advanced its expansion and the Orks sought only the endless glory of battle. Aeldari and the servants of darkness added their schemes and slaughter to the churn, until the system became a single sprawling war of extermination with no two combatants sharing a cause.

Dominion was eventually seized, but the Kaurava system paid for it in near-total ruin, its worlds cratered and depopulated, its wealth reduced to the scrap of shattered war-machines. The conflict stood as a grim parable of the age: seven powers, seven ambitions, and a system consumed to satisfy but one of them. In the end there was a victor, but there was scarcely anything left worth having won.
