The Beheading

In a single night of silent slaughter, master assassins murdered every one of the High Lords of Terra in their own sanctum.

In the turbulent aftermath of the Age of Apostasy, the highest seats of Imperial power were themselves put to the blade. The event remembered as The Beheading saw the entire Senatorum Imperialis, the twelve High Lords of Terra who ruled the Imperium in the Emperor's name, assassinated in a single, meticulously coordinated night of murder within the heart of the Imperial Palace.

The killers were the peerless operatives of the Officio Assassinorum, among the deadliest of all Imperial Agents, unleashed to purge a ruling council deemed corrupt, deadlocked, or dangerously compromised. One by one, in their private chambers and guarded sanctums, the mightiest lords of humanity were slain by shadows they never saw, their vaunted security proving no defence against the temple-trained masters of death.

Who ordered the Beheading, and by what authority, remains a matter shrouded in secrecy and conflicting record. What is certain is that a new council rose to fill the emptied thrones, power passing bloodily from one set of hands to another. The Beheading stands as a chilling testament to the brutal truth of Imperial politics: that in the grim darkness of the far future, not even the rulers of a million worlds are ever truly safe, and the knife in the dark serves the Imperium as surely as the bolter and the blade.
