The Slann Mage-Priests

The Slann Mage-Priests are the ancient, immortal rulers of the Lizardmen, and the mightiest sorcerers the world has ever known. Vast, bloated, toad-like beings who spend the centuries in meditative torpor upon floating palanquins, the Slann are the first and eldest children of the Old Ones — the god-like beings who came to the world in the dawn ages to order it toward a great and unfinished plan.

The Slann were created to be the servants and instruments of the Old Ones, and even now, ages after their masters vanished, they labour to complete the Great Plan they were set. A single gesture of a Slann's webbed hand can level mountains, redirect the Winds of Magic, or call down comets from the heavens; the eldest among them remember the world as it was before Chaos came, and carry in their minds the sacred geometries by which the Old Ones meant reality to be shaped.

From their temple-cities in the jungles of Lustria, the Slann direct the whole lizardmen race — the skinks who scurry and scheme, the saurus bred for war — as pieces upon a board whose full pattern only they can see. They are aloof beyond all human reckoning, contemplating designs that may take millennia to unfold and regarding the younger races as latecomers meddling in a plan laid before their kind existed. To disturb a Slann's meditation is to risk annihilation, for behind those heavy-lidded eyes broods a mind that once spoke with gods.
