Sacrificial Blade

Wailing Blade

A slender ritual blade of the Daughters of Khaine that shrieks as it cuts, its wail rising to a scream as it drinks the lifeblood of the slain.

The murder-cult of the Daughters of Khaine arms its Witch Aelves and Sisters of Slaughter with the Wailing Blade, a weapon as steeped in dread ceremony as it is in gore. Forged in the temples of Khaine and quenched in sacrificial blood, each blade is bound with a fragment of a trapped, tormented spirit, and it is this bound soul that gives the weapon its terrible voice.

When drawn, the blade emits a low keening; when swung, that keening rises to a shriek; and when it opens a wound, the wail crescendos into a scream of unholy delight. The aelves who wield these blades move like dancers, whirling through the enemy ranks in flurries of slashing steel, and the massed cry of a hundred Wailing Blades is a sound that has driven brave warriors to drop their weapons and flee. Those who cannot flee are simply cut apart, for the Daughters kill with a precision that is closer to art than butchery.

The blood spilled by a Wailing Blade is never truly wasted. It is offered up to Khaine, and through him to Morathi, the Shadow Queen who rules the cult. The spirits bound within the blades are said to grow hungrier with each battle, and a Witch Aelf must feed her weapon or risk it turning its keening despair upon her own thoughts. Thus the Daughters are ever driven to seek out fresh slaughter, their wailing blades singing them onward into the fray.
