Deadwalkers are the arithmetic of the Gravelords' wars: the recently dead, raised in droves and spent without hesitation. A zombie tide has no tactics and needs none. It comes on in a shuffling groan that never breaks and never rallies because it never routs, dragging down warriors ten times its equal beneath sheer smothering weight.
Their true horror is intimacy. The tide wears the faces of the parishes it was raised from — neighbors, kin, the miller and both his sons — and those it kills soon rise to join the procession. Soldiers on the marches of Soulblight lands learn to burn their dead quickly; the ones who hesitate end up fighting their friends twice.
