Shyish is the Realm of Death, a vast and sorrowful expanse of deserts, tombs and fading light, where all things bend at last toward their ending. Formed from the amethyst wind of magic, it is riddled with innumerable underworlds, each a realm of the dead shaped by the beliefs of the mortals who fill it. At its heart yawns the Shyish Nadir, a black whirlpool of gravitic doom into which all souls are dragged.

Supreme above the necropolises stands Nagash, the Great Necromancer and self-proclaimed God of Death, who claims dominion over every soul that has ever perished. From bone and stolen spirit he raises the Ossiarch Bonereapers, grim legions of remade dead who levy a tithe of bones from the living. The wailing hosts of the Nighthaunt sweep across the amethyst wastes as instruments of his vengeance.

Not all the dead serve willingly. The vampire dynasties of the Soulblight Gravelords carve out cursed kingdoms in defiance of Nagash's decrees, hungering for a dominion of their own. In Shyish, death is no rest but merely a change of masters, and even the grave offers no true escape.
