The Shyish Nadir is the vast whirlpool of raw death magic that now marks the centre of Shyish, the Realm of Death, created in the same instant as the Necroquake. When Nagash raised his great black pyramid and its power detonated rather than obeyed him, the heart of the realm collapsed inward, and where there had once been land there is now a gaping amethyst maelstrom of pure mortality.
The Nadir is the deepest point of Shyish, and the death-gravity that draws all souls toward the realm's centre is strongest here of all. Around its rim, the boundary between the living and the dead has all but dissolved, so that ghosts walk openly, memories bleed into the air, and time itself grows uncertain. Legions of the Nighthaunt spiral out from its edges like sparks from a grindstone, driven to punish the living at Nagash's command.
For the Great Necromancer, the Nadir is both a wound and a weapon, an ever-turning engine of death that pumps his power throughout the realms. For everyone else it is a place of ultimate dread, a slow drain into oblivion that swallows the careless and the doomed alike. Some whisper that at its bottom lies the seed of Nagash's ultimate ambition, an eventual silence in which every soul in existence will belong to Death, and nothing will ever live or die again.
