Shyish, the Realm of Death

Shyish, the Realm of Death, is the sombre plane ruled by the amethyst wind of endings, memory, and mortality. It is a land of boundless deserts of black sand, silent necropolises, and countless underworlds, for every culture that has ever believed in an afterlife has one waiting somewhere in Shyish, shaped by the faith of the souls who dwell there.

The realm answers to Nagash, the Great Necromancer and self-proclaimed God of Death, who claims dominion over every soul in existence as his rightful property. His fortress-realm sits at the heart of Shyish, and it was here that he enacted the catastrophic ritual that triggered the Necroquake, collapsing the realm's centre into a vast whirlpool of death magic. From this wound pour the vengeful spirits of the Nighthaunt and the bone-legions of the Ossiarch Bonereapers, harvested and rebuilt to serve his design.

Gravity in Shyish pulls the living inexorably toward its edges and the dead toward its heart, and the closer one draws to the realm's centre, the thinner the veil between life and death becomes. To outsiders it is a place of dread, yet it is not lifeless: mortal kingdoms endure in its safer reaches, bargaining with the dead and honouring Nagash's grim laws to survive in a realm where death is not an ending but a form of citizenship.
