Sotha lies at the marches of Ultramar, a green and rugged world crowned by the great mountain of Sothas that once bore a mighty beacon guiding ships through treacherous stars. From its highland holds arose the Space Marines known as the Scythes of the Emperor, a Chapter that took Sotha as its home and its heart, drawing recruits from a hardy people bred to hardship and vigilance.
The Sothans were proud folk, herders and hunters of the mountain vales, and they gave their strongest sons willingly to the fortress-monastery upon the peak. For long ages the world prospered under the watch of its warrior-sons, a quiet jewel at the edge of the primarch's realm, far from the great wars that consumed the galaxy's core.
Then came the tyranids. When Hive Fleet Kraken swept into the eastern segmentum, Sotha lay in its path, and the great alien swarm fell upon the world in numbers beyond counting. The Scythes of the Emperor were all but annihilated defending their home, and Sotha's biosphere was stripped down to bare rock, its oceans and forests consumed to feed the endless hunger. Now the world is a barren tomb, a memorial to a Chapter that gave everything and a grim warning of what waits in the outer dark.
