Kar Duniash is the fortress-world at the heart of Imperial power in the Ultima Segmentum, the seat of the Segmentum Command and the chief bastion of the Imperial Navy across the galaxy's immense eastern reaches. Its star-forts and orbital citadels form one of the mightiest concentrations of military might in the Imperium, a hub from which the wars of a thousand systems are directed.

From Kar Duniash the vast machinery of the Astra Militarum is marshalled, its strategos-lords apportioning regiments and fleets to the endless conflicts that rage across Ultima Segmentum. The world's fortified spires hold the archives, muster-halls and command-choirs through which the will of distant Terra is translated into the movement of armies numbering in the untold billions.

Because it anchors the defence of so vast a domain, Kar Duniash is defended with fanatical resolve, its every approach watched by guns that have never fallen silent. When the great rift tore the galaxy in two and the light of the Astronomican wavered, Kar Duniash became a beacon of stubborn order amid encroaching chaos, its garrisons holding the line so that the eastern Imperium would not dissolve into a thousand isolated, dying worlds.
