The pulse rifle is the standard armament of the T'au Fire Caste, and among the finest infantry weapons in the galaxy. It fires a pulsed bolt of superheated plasma held within an induction field, striking with the punch of far heavier guns while remaining light enough for a single warrior to carry and fire on the move.
Its great virtue is range. Pulse weapons reach out and kill at distances where enemy rifles cannot answer, letting the T'au fight the war they prefer — one of disciplined firepower delivered from afar, the foe cut down long before he can close to grips. Married to the T'au's superb targeting arrays and battlefield networks, the pulse rifle is as precise as it is powerful, each shot guided to its mark with cold efficiency.
It is the weapon of the Fire Warrior, mass-produced to a standard the Imperium's ancient foundries can rarely match, and it embodies the T'au way of war: technology, patience and overwhelming ranged fire in service of the Greater Good. A firing line of pulse rifles, loosing volley after measured volley, can shred an enemy advance before it has crossed half the ground between them — and the T'au will have moved on before the survivors ever reach the line where the fire came from. In the disciplined hands of the Fire Caste it is less a rifle than a statement of doctrine: that a battle is best won at a distance, cleanly and utterly, before the foe is ever given the chance to make it a bloody and uncertain thing.
