The Ghoul Stars are a benighted region lying beyond the Eastern Fringe, a cluster of dying and dead suns that the Imperium has long shunned as accursed. Little light and less hope reaches this forsaken corner of the void, and the few expeditions that have dared its bounds have seldom returned, or have returned changed beyond all recognition.
The region takes its grim name from the horrors that dwell within it. Ancient and terrible xenos hold sway here, chief among them the Necrons, whose slumbering tomb worlds lie scattered throughout the dead systems. As these undying legions stir from their aeons-long hibernation, they wake to a galaxy transformed, and turn their soulless gaze outward with cold, patient malice. Other, stranger things are whispered to haunt the Ghoul Stars as well, entities the Imperium has no names for and no wish to name.
Few records exist of the region, for the Adeptus Terra has judged it wiser to leave the Ghoul Stars untouched than to provoke what sleeps there. It stands as a dark frontier beyond the frontier, a place where even the boundless ambition of Mankind falters, and where the deep past of the galaxy waits, hostile and eternal, in the cold between the dying suns.
