Vigilus

Vigilus is a strategically vital world positioned within the Nachmund Gauntlet, one of the few stable passages through the great galaxy-splitting warp rift that tore the Imperium in two. Whoever controls Vigilus controls a lifeline across that impassable barrier, and so this otherwise unremarkable sentinel world became the focus of a sprawling, multi-front war.

A harsh planet of ash wastes and sprawling hive-sprawl, Vigilus found itself beset from every side at once. Ork migrations, Genestealer Cult uprisings, Aeldari raids, and the daemonic hordes of Chaos converged upon it, while the defenders, led by Space Marines and reinforced by the Astra Militarum, fought a desperate campaign to hold the world against overwhelming odds. The conflict drew champions from across the galaxy to its embattled surface.

The fighting on Vigilus became a proving ground for new heroes and new horrors alike, a place where the wider war for the age was distilled into a single, brutal theater. Its importance far outweighed its size, for to lose Vigilus was to sever a crucial artery of the Imperium's defense in the eastern reaches. The world endures as an emblem of the desperate, grinding warfare that defines an age of endless siege, where survival is measured day by bloody day.
