Baal

Baal is the harsh homeworld of the Blood Angels, a Chapter of the Space Marines renowned for their nobility, artistry, and the terrible curse that haunts their bloodline. The planet itself is a red-hued desert world of irradiated wastes, orbited by two inhabited moons, Baal Primus and Baal Secundus, from whose hardy, mutated populations the Chapter draws most of its aspirants.

Scoured by ancient atomic wars long before the coming of the Emperor, the Baal system is a place of relentless privation, where survival demands strength, endurance, and a measure of savagery. The fortress-monastery of the Blood Angels rises from the sands as a golden citadel, a treasure-house of relics and masterworks that stands in stark contrast to the barren world around it. Here the sons of Sanguinius are trained, and here they return to rest between their endless wars.

In recent history Baal endured its darkest hour when a vast Tyranid hive fleet descended upon the system, intent on consuming its worlds and the precious gene-seed of the Chapter with them. The resulting siege brought the Blood Angels and their successors to the very brink of extinction, and the moons were despoiled before the tide was broken. Though it survived, Baal remains a wounded world, its defenders forever watchful for the next horror to emerge from the darkness between the stars.
