The Second War for Armageddon was the first of the great ork invasions to engulf that embattled hive world, and the conflict that raised one of the Imperium's most celebrated heroes to legend. It began when a colossal greenskin WAAAGH!, led by the warlord Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka, descended upon Armageddon in a storm of crude warships and boarding craft.
Caught unprepared, the Imperial defenders were driven back as ork hordes overran the industrial sprawl and laid siege to the hive cities. The fighting devolved into a grinding urban nightmare of street-by-street attrition, where the greenskins' endless numbers and brutal cunning threatened to overwhelm every line of defence. Amid this desperation, the commissar Sebastian Yarrick emerged as the linchpin of the resistance, his iron will and defiance rallying broken units and inspiring a stubborn defence.
Through immense sacrifice the invasion was eventually halted and Ghazghkull's horde broken, though the warlord himself escaped to plot his return. The war left Armageddon scarred and its people hardened, while Yarrick became a symbol of resistance whose name struck fear even into the orks. Yet the greenskin warboss had learned much from the campaign, and he vowed to come again in greater strength, a promise he would keep in the Third War for Armageddon.
