The Damocles Crusade

The Damocles Crusade was the Imperium's first major military response to the rising power of the T'au Empire, launched across the treacherous void of the Damocles Gulf. Alarmed by the rapid expansion of this upstart alien civilisation, the Imperium assembled a crusade fleet to punish the xenos and reclaim the human worlds that had fallen under their influence.

The campaign opened with brutal effectiveness as Imperial forces stormed T'au-held worlds, and the technologically advanced but numerically inferior aliens were driven back with heavy losses. Yet the T'au proved resilient and resourceful, trading space for time and blunting the offensive with mobile firepower and stubborn defence. As the crusade pressed toward the T'au homeworld, the war settled into a grinding stalemate that neither side could easily break.

The conflict ended not in decisive victory but in an unlikely and pragmatic truce, forced upon both combatants by the sudden emergence of a far greater threat, the approach of a tyranid hive fleet from beyond the galactic rim. Faced with a foe that menaced them both, the two powers disengaged, leaving the fundamental question of the T'au unresolved. The crusade had checked their expansion but failed to destroy them, and the aliens would rise again, more determined than ever. For more, see the Damocles Crusade.
